The Commissioner’s Report, Week 1:

Hey all! Commish Wings is here to let you know that TCR is making its return to your LOD content feed. For now, it’ll be a featured segment in the Blogger Boyz’s feed, but let’s not rule out the return of the pod completely… 😉 I’ll be using this segment to recap the week’s action with a focus on the Commish Cup race. I’ll leave the power rankings to the experts.

Anyways…

Commish’s Takes

The inaugural Commissioner’s Cup kicked off its first week in less-than-dramatic fashion, with the top 3 more or less staying the same throughout the week. While Chuck and Gio pick right back up where they left off, Nauch coming in third is def a surprise considering where he was ranked post-draft. On the subject of missed expectations, the top-ranked Erik came in a tough eighth place finish- and would have been 9th if this didn’t happen (fuck NYC Osama should have… nvm). With plenty of ball left to be played, I’m taking these results with a grain of salt regarding the rest of the season; I’m sure you can find wild overreactions with the Blogger Boyz.

Chuck mentioned that it seemed like a pretty low-scoring week 1, and it was even by week 1 standards. Compared to last season, this week’s average score was 14 points lower, and without the QB buff this may have been even worse. That being said, the overall point spread was smaller (especially for the bottom half of the grid) which may indicate a more competitive league this season. Still way too soon, of course.

Postgame Interviews

Finally, I reached out to the top 3 finishers after the end of Monday night to get their thoughts after the end of the opening week, and here’s what they had to say:

1st: Chuck

How are you feeling after such a strong start to the season?

“It feels great. Being out of the comfort zone of my couch and being at the Pats game instead of watching Scott Hanson definitely gave me a scare this week of being out of Rhythm. However we ball. After the way last season ended with my team it definitely sucked, but just wanted to prove I wasn’t washed. My team looks all around strong.”

Definitely a great bounce back, especially given that Gio came in a relatively close second place. Do you see this as a good message to send to your arch rival that there’s a chip on your shoulder?

“I don’t think it’s [a] message to Gio specifically, but to put the league on Notice that I’m here. Ultimately Gio’s team put up a hell of a performance. I did say his breakout player would be Aiyuk in that offense and look at what he did. Monster Game. There is a chip on my shoulder though. I do plan on bringing the trophy back to its rightful owner this season. “

It’s a long fight back to the championship but you’re definitely starting off on the right foot. Any game planning yet for next week’s match vs. Ant?

“Man Game planning against my partner in the BBC. I mean right now it’s really gonna be if I start Zay Flowers or Kenneth Gainwell really. Diontae probably out next week with the Hammy. Ant losing Dobbins doesnt really do much to him as he has Sanders and Bryce looked solid so he should be okay with a bounce back from a pissed off Joey Ice. This might be the matchup of the week and one of the highest scoring matchups we see all year if the NFL goes back to normal based on the matchups. However, am I worried about him? Not at all.”

2nd Gio

How are you feeling after starting your title defense with a win?

“They wrote me off, I didn’t write back though”

Any thoughts about seeing your arch rival Chuck opening the season in first place? Still plenty of ball left to be played, but definitely a reminder that he’ll be looking for revenge after last year’s championship.

“Yeah wish he woulda did that in the championship and made things interesting

I’m still the team to beat “

What is next week’s game plan vs. Nauch?

“Not worried about Nauch“

3rd Nauch

How are you feeling after a strong start for what a lot of people thought was a shaky draft?

“Fuck them picks.”

Do you have the confidence that your team can repeat a strong performance versus the defending champion?

“We’ll just need to stay consistent. We’re expecting a bounce from Saquon next week and the emergence of Tutu Atwell has me slightly bricked. We’re hoping to go into the mid season in good form and hopefully a deal can be done down in Indianapolis soon. “

Thanks for tuning in fellas… looking forward to week 2 of what should be a fun af season
