The Commissioner’s Report, Week 4:

Fantasy is a crazy sport. This week flipped the scripts on several teams who seemed to have been figured out and overall tightened up the playoff and commish cup chases after two top teams put up stinkers and the last 0-3 teams made it out the trenches. A quarter of the way through the season, there has been plenty of drama and chaos which only stands to increase as we start the bye weeks. Outside of Ant and Gio, teams are (rightfully) on edge to try and thrive under the pressure. Let’s jump into the numbers.

Commish’s Takes

League scoring came back down to average after an offense-heavy week 3, though this does not tell the whole story. Even with Wings and Gio leading the pack far and away with 200+ point performances, the average score this week was somehow lower than week 4 last year, which had Joe drop an 84 point stinker. Joining Ant in the trenches this week were two surprise guests in Chuck and Ryan, who paid harshly for this in the Commissioner Cup standings. Gio, meanwhile, took full advantage here and in the playoff hunt to take sole possession of first place in both competitions. While he still takes advantage of weak opponents, being able to back it up with a top score to help clap back at doubters of how valid the 4-0 start is.

While Gio does leap ahead, it’s still overall a very tight race with the league seeing a lot of parity this year all things considered. This week showed that everyone is susceptible to having a down week (even if the defending champ yet has to…), so I wouldn’t say anyone is yet the far and away clear favorite. With the bye weeks starting, we should start to see who has the depth and savvy to truly endure through to be playing meaningful games in December.

Of course, I really want put an ANTsterisk at the end that the league’s favorite terrorist is likely looking at another tank season barring a miracle. Still, ANTything is possible.

Postgame Interviews

WINGS (P1)

LFFFGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. The road to 3-3 begins. How about them trades doe 😉

GIO (P2)

Congrats on the 200 week and happy belated birthday. Taking first in the league and commish cup have to be great gifts. What was the highlight of this week’s performance?

“Thank you commish, my team once again proved their dominance and I couldn’t be happier with their performance. Hope this silences the doubters as I reach 4-0 for the first time in the LOD Era”

While you face current second-place Ryan next week, he has Herbert on bye, is it already time to start thinking about playoffs?

“Yeah I expect to cruise to 5-0 as he also has Walker & White on bye, I’ve been winning without Ekeler so him being on bye doesn’t worry me too much

Playoffs is a given, doesn’t matter who I’m up against I’ll come out on top. This trophy is staying in Rialto boys“

NAUCH (P3)

Another out-of nowhere top 3 finish and a win to stay in the thick of the playoff chase. Great job this week. Safe to say any rumors of any tanking have been put to rest for now?

“I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Our squad is a lot better than the writers think. We got some big pieces coming back soon and we’ll be looking to make a splash before the deadline to address our needs.
